The 1994 World Cup hero was a team-mate of Pirlo during his two years spent at Inter in the late 1990s.
In 2000 Baggio moved on to Brescia where he enjoyed a successful final four years to a glittering career, while in 2001 Pirlo transfered to Milan, where he has also excelled.
"I give my compliments to Andrea. I'm very happy for him. He's a fundamental player both for Milan and for Italy," Baggio told the TV program 'Segni Particolari'
"Andrea has shown all his talent and his value. When we played together everything depended on him. He's always had the great merit of knowing beforehand what could happen in a move.
"His game vision, what he's able to build, make him a world-class player. Andrea has something you don't see very often."
Baggio is widely regarded as one of Italy's greatest and most popular footballers of all time. He scored 291 club career goals during spells as Vicenza, Fiorentina, Juventus, Milan, Bologna, Inter and Brescia. He is also the fourth top scorer of all time for the Italian national team, with 27 goals from 56 appearances.
