Kaka Wins FIFA World Player Of The Year Award

Brazil and AC Milan midfielder Kaka has won the FIFA World Player of the Year award for 2007.

A Runaway Winner

It has been a spectacular season for Kaka, littered with trophies and awards, and he made sure nobody ran away with the final plaudit of the season.

The Champions League, European Cup and Club World Cup winner saw off the challenge from Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo in the poll of national team coaches and captains to win by more than 500 points.

He had 1,047 points while Messi had 504 and Ronaldo 426, making it a runaway win like in the Ballon d'Or.

Didier Drogba was fourth, a further 200 points off, with 209, while Ronaldinho came in fifth.

A Special Night

"Tonight is really special for me," said Kaka.

"When I was young I dreamed of playing for Sao Paulo and playing just one game for the national team.

"That was it...but the Bible says God gives us more than we ask for and that is what has happened in my life.

"I had always thought about winning this (FIFA) award," said Kaka. "But there are always doubts until it is actually confirmed.

"It is not just this award but the whole year that has been very nice. Winning the Champions League and everything that has happened, it's just been wonderful."

A Word For Local Rivals

The Milan man was also asked about the derby clash against Inter this weekend.

"We want to do well because it's the last game of the season and a great chance to recover some lost ground," he said.

"If we then also win the three games we have to recover, we can rise up the table and get close to the teams on top.

"We are not afraid of anyone."

Pele Praise

Pele, who gave away the award, said: "Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi have played some great football this year but they are not yet the most prominent players in their national teams," Pele said.

"Kaka has been playing at this level for Brazil for four years now, he helps out in midfield and he is also a great example off the pitch. He's the complete player."

HURRAH, HURRAH, HURRAH!

The President had asked for a promise and the team kept it. That is why this morning he was happy and convinced that the lads were charged at the right points – THE WORDS OF PRESIDENT BERLUSCONI -

MILAN – These are the declarations of President Silvio Berlusconi last night with Milan Channel at the end of the television program 'Controcampo':

President, during the Christmas dinner of Milan, you had asked for a promise, that of becoming World Champions and the team kept it.
“Promises given and kept, like it happened many times in these past 20 years. I believe, therefore, that we Milan fans, continue a great dream which has been going on for a very long time and my commitment, which can be from now onwards, is to continue this dream and I believe that the Milan fans can count on it."

Milan avenged history as it’s not done by everyone to play again a final against Liverpool and Boca Juniors and winning them both.
“Yes, it’s difficult that such an occasion can happen, both having the revenge and the win. We have reached the first objective, not because of our merit, but the second for our complete merit and therefore we are happy."

After the first two goals it seemed like in 1990 when Rijkaard and Stroppa had scored. Inzaghi, we expected that, and Nesta scored. Did you expect a goal by Nesta?
“Football is mostly irrational; a lot is due to luck, a lot to skill, effort and chemistry that a team can develop. There’s nothing to be surprised about that a defender scored, just like the equalizer was scored by an attacker who is not particularly good at heading, all alone in the middle with six Milan defenders. This is football."

Did you feel this win? Before the match in Athens you said that you called Pippo Inzaghi. Did you call anyone in particular before this game?
“I called everyone, I was close to all of them. I did not go there before I had important commitments right now in the Italian situation, but I was serene. This morning I sat down in front of the television and I had a full serenity. I was convinced that our lads were charged well. We saw our opponents and I was convinced with Milan’s superiority over Boca Juniors and I hoped that some bad luck or irrationality, of which I spoke before, would intervene. And it went this way, hurrah, hurrah, hurrah!”

Where can Kaka arrive? He is receiving the individual awards all this year.
"He just needs to confirm what he did this year. He would be happy and all of us would be very happy.”

A comment on Paolo Maldini?
“It’s a career of an extraordinary man and champion, a dedication like no other, a man who made the history of Milan and that he will always remain in our hearts, and I hope he remains at Milan."

This competition has been defined as ‘world derby’, in the next days there’s the Milanese derby. Will you ask for another effort to the team?
“After a great win, relaxation is physiological, but the game against Inter is always a different game than others. Therefore I’m sure that they will go on the pitch with the conviction that they will have to play for the win and therefore will be on the pitch wanting to be masters of the pitch and the game."

Alexandre Pato will arrive in January. Ancelotti talks well about him. What do you expect?
“We expect the gestures of a great champion, of a rejuvenation of the entire team. I spoke with Carlo Ancelotti of what could Pato bring to Milan and he told me that if he continues to play like we see him in the training games between the lads, it ends up that between January and June he will score 30 goals. 'Will you write it down Carletto?’ – I asked him. 'Written down no, but I'm convinced that there are many possibilities that he can reach this target.' - told me Ancelotti."

The fans also wait for Ronaldo.
"We’re all waiting for Ronaldo. He has been with Milan for the past 6 months, even with a respectable wage, and practically he has never played. The machines cannot find any negativity in his physique and muscles, there’s something we are missing, something psychological and now we shall put him for a nice and intensive psychological cure, otherwise we shall take him to Lourdes, hoping not to find it closed!

“Through Milan Channel I want to wish my colleagues, sick of Milan and the Milan religion, an affectionate hug and a wish to each one of them, that they can transform all dreams and desires that in their hearts for themselves and their loved ones in reality."

Kaka: I Want Milan Forever

AC Milan superstar Kaka has declared that he wants to stay with the club for the rest of his career.

The Brazilian magician was in scintillating form yesterday, scoring once and setting up both of Filippo Inzaghi’s goals as the Rossoneri defeated Boca Juniors 4-2 to win the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan.

Before the match Milan Vice President Adriano Galliani stated that Kaka would sign a new, long-term contract with the club in the summer, and that he swore he would remain until he retired.

"On the 30th of June of next year, Kaka will sign on until 2013," Galliani said.

"Kaka has sworn that he will remain at Milan for his entire career. He gave his word. He's our symbol and our flag."

Kaka himself has now confirmed that this is exactly his intention.

“It's great here, I want to stay forever," the 2002 World Cup winner smiled.

Kaka has had a magnificent year, winning the Champions League, European Super Cup, World Club Cup and the Ballon d’Or.

He is also expected to pick up the FIFA World Player of the Year award, when the winner is announced today.

Two AC Milan players have picked up the prize in the past; Marco Van Basten in 1992 and George Weah in 1995.

MILAN: WORLD RECORD!

They defended the European pride and reached the absolute record of world cup wins (four). However, Milan broke another world record: that of the number of trophies won. They are 18, no other club like us! No one!

YOKOHAMA - The win in the Club World Cup is not only a great result for the team of Carlo Ancelotti. It's not just the crowning of a great 2007, which saw Milan win the Champions League at Athens, the European SuperCup at Montecarlo, and today, the Club World Cup in Japan. It's not just the European pride which imposes for the first time on the South American one since the change of the tournament formula (Liverpool and Barcelona both lost against San Paolo and Internacional de Porto Alegre). Between Milan and Boca there was at stake also a double record: that of intercontinental success and that of international trophies. A double record which was coloured in red and black.

Rossoneri and Argentineans, before this game, were both at 17 international wins: from now on, Milan is ahead of everyone, on the top of the world, higher than any other team.

A TRIUMPHANT STANDING!

MILAN: 18 Trophies
Boca: 17
Real Madrid and Independiente: 15
Al Ahly: 13
Ayax-Liverpool-Barcellona-San Paolo-Zamalek: 11
Juventus: 10

The head to head with the Argentineans therefore goes to the Milanisti. Hereunder is the palmares of the two teams who faced each other today at Yokohama:

THE 18 TROPHIES OF MILAN

4 Intercontinental Cups, 7 Champions League, 5 European SuperCups, 2 Cup Winners Cup

THE 17 TROPHIES OF BOCA

3 Intercontinental Cups, 6 Libertadores Cups, 2 Cope Sudamericane, 1 Supercopa Sudamericana, 1 Supercoppa Masters, 3 Recope Sudamericane, 1 Copa De Oro.

The game in the game was about the World Cup tournament of Japan. Milan is in the history books, Milan is the only club to have triumphed 4 times in the world: in 1969, in 1989, 1990 and in 2007!

Boca remains with three (1977, 2000, 2003), just like Real Madrid, the Brazilians of San Paolo and the Uruguay sides of Nacional and Penarol. The world record is of the Rossoneri, and therefore, let's re-build the 'intercontinental' mosaic, which from today has a new unforgettable piece:

THE 4 ROSSONERI'S WORLD CUPS

1969: MILAN-ESTUDIANTES 3-0//ESTUDIANTES-MILAN 2-1

1989: MILAN-ATLETICO N. MEDELLIN 1-0

1990: MILAN-OLIMPIA ASSUNCION 3-0

2007: BOCA JUNIORS-MILAN 2-4

Ancelotti Delighted, But Eager For More Success

AC Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti is more than pleased at AC Milan's annus mirabilis, but he's eager for the side to repeat their feats next year...

AC Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti, it's fair to say, will look back on 2007 with fondness.

"This year has been perfect, and we kept the promise we made to the club president - now we'll try to do it again in 2008," he grinned.

Ancelotti seemed to indicate that the Club World Cup and the Champions League were both high-priority tournaments that may have led to some difficulties in Serie A.

Regardless, he's delighted to have another trophy to add to his collection.

"We struggled at first, but we were brilliant in the second period against Boca," he said.

"Thanks to good preparation, we were able to bring home a great victory for Italian football in general.

"It's a great way to end an excellent year, thanks to that most important and marvellous of matches."

Milan had won three prior Intercontinental Cups before, but never had they or any other European side, won the Club World Cup per se since the tournament format changed.

Still, for some fans this is scant consolation, as the rossoneri are falling behind at home. Ancelotti, though, has no such worries.

"In January the season begins anew, and we'll be major players in Europe and Serie A alike," he promised.

INFINITE PRIDE

Inzaghi was so emotional he was 'without words. I thought 2007 had already given me a lot and instead...'. Kaká calls the victory 'special'. The group enjoys the trophy. - THE WORDS OF THE ROSSONERI -

YOKOHAMA - Here are the declarations made by the rossoneri following the Club World Cup final, Boca Juniors-Milan (2-4), which gave Milan the title of World Champions:

RICKY KAKA'

"It was a match and a championship I cared about a lot, as a Brazilian and a Milan player. Participating in this competition and this victory is something special. There have been many great moments for me this year. I was top scorer in the Champions League and I will never forget that title, as well as some of the games I played. Particularly the two goals I scored against Manchester United at Old Trafford, but especially the return game against the English at San Siro, my first goal, the rain, the victory. It was a perfect evening. Then Paris, everything that happened on 2 December, from the moment I woke up until the end, to the meeting with the fans at the Piazza Duomo. It was an unforgettable day.
Not to mention this day... I won the award for the best player of the match. But I won this prize thanks to the whole squad, the group. And so I, like the group, have decided to give my part to Fondazione Milan. I was a bit worried about my nail, I had pain in a very painful spot. Before the match I felt some pain, but once I was on the pitch it all went away. I just wanted to win."

FILIPPO INZAGHI (who was reached by Rino with the trophy in his hand)

"It's a great joy, it was a truly extraordinary 2007. I thought this year had already given me a lot, instead it gave me this great emotion too. I'm speechless, there are no more words to describe what I feel."

PAOLO MALDINI

"This is great, it's hard to keep playing until 39 years of age with a great team like Milan, a club that has always given me the possibility to play for something important. Today I feel truly satisfied about what I've done."

RONALDO

"I'm happy about this important victory for the whole club. Too bad my injury prevented me from playing this match. I couldn't make it, but my team mates did well, and managed to win this Cup. I hope to get back on the pitch soon to give my contribution again, I have to get better as soon as possible. There were a few Brazilian flags, that was nice to see. Also tonight Kaká showed he is a lad who never ceases to surprise people and it's only right he gets all these individual awards now."

EMERSON

"I was waiting for this moment because I was forced to stay out for a month due to physical problems, now I'm doing well and for that I must thank the whole club, the team, the Coach because mine was not an easy physical problem to solve, but fortunately now I feel better.
After a month without action the training sessions I had here in Yokohama were very useful for me, these days in football you can't play if your condition isn't the best. I really thank the whole medical staff which has been really good for me and all the team mates who were close to me. This month hasn't been easy at all for me, especially seeing my team mates go out on the pitch and being unable to help them. But I was thrilled to go out and give my contribution in such an important match. I saw a very young Boca team, compared to other times I've seen them play, I think they lacked a bit of experience, other times they played better. This evening they did not close down well and gave our players the chance to our players to play their football. Now as soon as we are back in Italy we'll think first about the Coppa Italia and then the derby."

MARCOS CAFU

"It seems incredible that after 2002 I've come back here to win another Cup. Also this final was a great emotion, especially because it came on Milan's birthday. Tonight I came in to help, to contribute, to give a hand and of course I wouldn't have minded if I scored. I told the Coach we would have to fight until the end. When the Coach calls me to give my part I am always ready.
Personally I feel good physically, I'm mentally calm after a difficult period I went through two years ago, I think that if I keep on doing like this I will continue playing after June. With this trophy I'm a part of history because I won it both with a South American team and an Italian team, and certainly it's something that gives me satisfaction because it comes after years of hard work."

CLARENCE SEEDORF

"I received the prize for the second best player of this tournament, I'm very happy and proud because this team showed it was ready at the right time. These individual prizes are nice, but they come after the group. I'm also happy for Kaká, for his first place and I'm happy that two Milan players have brought home these prizes. This is a team that after the last five-six years still has motivations, humility, and willingness to sacrifice themselves, then of course success comes to those who deserve it."

RINO GATTUSO

"The secret of these victories is the group. After many years we are still all together here winning. You could see the motivation by how we prepared this tournament in these twelve days, because we all wanted this Cup. We came here to play for the victory and bring home this trophy."

Milan Crowned World Club Champions

Boca Juniors 2 - 4 AC Milan

AC Milan have become the first European team to win the Club World Cup as they defeated Boca Juniors in a thrilling final in Japan.

AC Milan have become the first European team to win the Club World Cup as they defeated Boca Juniors in a thrilling final in Japan.

Filippo Inzaghi netted twice and Alessandro Nesta and Kaká were also on target as the Champions League winners saw off the challenge of the Copa Libertadores holders in style.

Boca netted through Rodrigo Palacio and an own goal from Massimo Ambrosini, but it was not enough to prevent Milan from making history and clinching the trophy.

In front of a packed stadium in Yokohama, the Rossoneri took the lead after 21 minutes as Kaká saw his effort blocked before picking up the rebound to find Inzaghi and the poacher slotted home from six yards.

Within a minute, however, the Argentinian outfit were level as Palacio headed in an equaliser while Milan were still settling down after their opener.

The game was played at a high tempo and as the pace did not drop after the break, Nesta stepped forward to hammer Milan back into the lead in the 50th minute.

Kaká was in sparkling form as he looked to drive the Italians forward, while at the other end Boca came close to a second equaliser when Hugo Ibarra's long range effort struck the woodwork.

As the match continued though, Milan began to take the upper hand and it was fitting that Kaká added his side's third goal as he poked the ball through the keeper's legs just after the hour mark.

The encounter was over as a contest with 19 minutes remaining as Inzaghi netted his second of the evening after Kaká supplied the pass once again.

There was still time for Boca to reduce the arrears and they were given a helping hand by Ambrosini as he beat Dida with five minutes left on the clock.

Kaka With Us Until 2013, Promises Galliani

Milan general manager Adriano Galliani has made an important promise which will surely please all the team's fans: Kaka will extend his contract in June.

Even though he is in Yokohama to follow Milan's Club World Cup final, Galliani is still focusing on his duties as he confirmed that Kaka is set to extend his current deal by two more years, that is his contract will now expire in 2013.

"The current agreement expires in 2011," explained the General Manager.

"But on the 30th of June of next year, Kaka will sign on until 2013."

"Kaka has sworn that he will remain at Milan for his entire career," he continued.

"He gave his word. He's our symbol and our flag."

Galliani then spoke about the recent war of words between Carlo Ancelotti and Jose Mourinho.

"First of all, let's clear it up that Mourinho never offered himself," he insisted.

"Then I repeat that Milan aim on a coach who has grown with us.

"There are many around right now, but Ancelotti is not and will never be in doubt, despite the results."

APPOINTMENT WITH HISTORY

Both Milan and Boca are after the fourth World Cup win: whoever will win, it will be a record, since that none of the teams ever managed to do so. Rossoneri and Argentineans have triumphed 3 times.

YOKOHAMA – In front of Milan there isn’t only the possibility to play the Club World Cup, but also that of entering the history books. For the Rossoneri, who have won the Intercontinental trophy three times, there’s the real possibility of winning the fourth cup and it would be a record. The same story is valid for their opponents, Boca Juniors: even today the team coached by Russo, has the opportunity of climbing on top of the world for the fourth time. No other team managed to do so.

The Rossoneri won the Cup in 1969, 1989 and 1990, whereas the Argentineans won it in 1977, 2000 and 2003. With three wins there are also Real Maldrid, San Paolo, Nacional and Penarol, who did not take part in this edition.

If it should go like we all hope, Milan would be the only club to have won the World Cup 4 times. However, other records could be sealed on the 16th of December at Yokohama: Cafu could become the only World Champion to win the Cup both in a South American team (San Paolo in 1992 and 1993) and a European team; Paolo Maldini will play his sixth final, after winning two in 1989 and 1990 and the other three he lost in 1993, 1994 and 2003. Pippo Inzaghi, who came in against Urawa instead of Gilardino during the game, could instead become the only player to score in all competitions, if he finds the goal in the final.

However, apart from the personal records, there’s an entire Milan team which dreams of that trophy which has been missing for the past 17 years. The destiny, for the second time, sends the Rossoneri to face their latest rivals. Just like in the Champions League final, which was played again against Liverpool, following the incredible epilogue of 2005, Milan will have the opportunity for revenge against Boca, following the final won by Carlos Bianchi’s side in 2003. In that circumstance, Boca won from the penalty shoot-out, as regular time and extra time ended 1-1, with the goals in the first half by Tomasson and Donnet.

The story of the Cup is ready to write a new chapter, and for Milan and Boca it is a huge chance: to enter the legend.

It is also fair to remember that since Fifa has substituted the Intercontinental Cup with this competition, the champions have always been Brazilians: Internacional last year and San Paolo the previous year. Who will follow them, the Italians or Argentineans?

On Sunday the important verdict will arrive: appointment is for 16th of December, at 11.30am (Italian time), always at the International Stadium of Yokohama.

Maldini plots Boca payback

Paolo Maldini insists that Milan are ready to take their revenge against Boca Juniors in Sunday’s Club World Cup Final.

The Rossoneri were beaten by the Argentine giants in a penalty shoot-out in the 2003 Intercontinental Cup and are determined to get their own back.

“This game will be a different story from 2003, just like the Final in Athens against Liverpool was different from Istanbul,” Maldini told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It’s the game that everyone is waiting for, as its South America v Europe.”

Milan have been greeted by hysterical support in Japan and were given a warm welcome as they beat Urawa Red Diamonds.

“Here in Japan there is so much enthusiasm and support for me that I nearly feel embarrassed,” Maldini continued.

“I can see it from the huge number of shirts with my name on the back that I see outside our hotel.

“The atmosphere at the game yesterday was unique. Their fans were very noisy, but they were different from ours. There isn’t really a home advantage in Japan.”

Maldini concluded with a word on Kaka, the star of Thursday’s win who has been winning comparisons to Marco Van Basten.

“Kaka and Marco are different players,” the veteran stopper maintained. “But the Brazilian has reached an extraordinary level – he has already won a World Cup and so much with Milan, even though he is still young.”

The Ballon d’Or winner has been limping in training today as he is suffering from a damaged toe caused by playing with a broken toenail.

However, he will be ready to face Boca on Sunday morning. Kick-off is set for 10.30am.

Spanish Press: Ronaldinho Would Only Leave Barça For Milan

Sport.es reports that Barcelona star Ronaldinho will only consider leaving Camp Nou if it's to go to AC Milan, rather than another club...

The likes of Chelsea have no hope of landing Ronaldinho, according to Sport.es.

The pro-Barcelona sports daily cites a Sky Italia report claiming that, should the Brazilian forward leave Camp Nou, he will only do so for AC Milan.

A Sky Italia journalist has been tracking developments regarding the former Paris Saint-Germain man for some weeks now, concluding that only Milan would do for Ronaldinho if his Barça career should end.

AC Milan supremo Silvio Berlusconi has already been in touch with Ronnie's brother and agent, Roberto de Assis, rgarding a potential move to Italy, with both sides apparently happy with the terms on offer.

However, this is all contingent on two things: one, Ronaldinho being apt to leave Barcelona in the first place. This in itself is far from certain, particularly as he seems to be recovering both his form and his joy for the game.

Secondly, Barcelona's feelings on the issue are of great importance. With 'Dinho still under a long contract, Joan Laporta is not being forced into making a sale.

What's more, the president regards Ronaldinho as an emblem of the club, and one that cannot lightly be parted with.

Still, his hand could be forced by a huge offer - 40 or 50 million euros - and one could potentially be forthcoming.

After all, Silvio Berlusconi's desire to land the Brazilian is well-known by this point.

Galliani: Ronaldo Is Staying

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has rubbished rumours that the club are ready to offload injury-plagued striker Ronaldo.

El Fenomeno has only played one game for the Rossoneri this season due to injury and has been forced to sit out this week's Club World Cup in Japan.

Ronaldo's continued injury problems has led to reports in the Italian press that Milan may allow Ronaldo to leave, with a move to America, the United Arab Emirates or Japan touted.

However Galliani says that the 31-year-old will be staying.

“Ronaldo is very disciplined,” he explained.

“He is devastated by what has happened, but he will stay here and stay with Milan.

“He’s going back to Milan and then to Brazil for a holiday and he will return to train with the team.

“Next year, we will have two great strikers in Alexandre Pato and Ronaldo and we have faith and respect for the two.”

Ronaldo himself has also spoken of his disappointment to be injured and says he wants to return as soon as possible in order to repay his employers.

"I'm disappointed to be out again, I already lost two finals and I had two injuries that were unexpected," the ex-Real Madrid man said.

"I hope I can get back into shape quickly to be able to give something more and repay this team for the affection it has shown towards me."

POSITIVE SENSATIONS

At the end of the first training session in Yokohama, 2007 Golden Ball winner Kaká talked about his first sensations in the Asian continent. - THE DECLARATIONS OF KAKÁ -

YOKOHAMA - Here are the declarations made by Kaká at the end of today's training session at the sporting center of Yokohama Marinos:

Ricky, how did the trip go?
"It went well, the first few hours we had fun, then we talked a little and the majority of the players slept and we rested."

Are you suffering from the jetlag?
"Not really, I'm used to it as I often travel to Brazil, only in that case the time goes backward. The important thing is that your whole body gradually gets used to it. Now we will follow the instructions to decide when it's most appropriate to eat and sleep."

What were your sensations during this first training session?
"Positive sensations. I was happy to see Emerson train with the group, I'm not sure how well he is doing, but it's always good to see a team mate recovering. I'm sorry Ronie and Sergio did not take part in today's training, but I hope to see them back with us soon."

Kaka: Milan Are Not A One-Man Team

Midfield maestro Kaka has hit out at those who say that Milan are a one-man team, and says the club’s success is down to everyone.

The Brazilian is undoubtedly the Rossoneri’s star man and on Sunday he was crowned as the 2007 winner of the Ballon d’Or.

Some sources have suggested that Milan wouldn’t be in Japan competing for the FIFA Club World Cup if they didn’t have Kaka in the team.

“Did I bring Milan here? No, it was an equal exchange,” the 25-year-old maintained.

“I did my best, but Milan isn’t just Kaka - it’s a team.

"We always play to win and I’m going to this competition looking to win it all.”

Milan are set to play Japanese J-League side Urawa Reds in the semi-final in Yokohama, before a probable final contest against Copa Libertadores winners Boca Juniors.

The Argentine-giants beat Milan on penalties in the final in 2003 and Kaka is looking for revenge.

“I want to play Boca,” he stressed. “Mostly because we lost to them four years ago and also because the tradition of this tournament is that a European side meets a South American one in the Final.

“Three years ago I never thought I’d be here again with the Ballon d’Or on the mantelpiece. Today I am really satisfied with everything that we have achieved.”

Kaka Happily Acclimatising In Japan

Brazilian superstar Kaka says he is settling in well in Japan after the arrival of the Milan team today.

The Rossoneri touched down at Tokyo International Airport at 5.12 pm local time, and Kaka was mobbed by a mass of Japanese fans as soon as he got off the plane.

Milan held their first training session in Yokohama ahead of next Thursday's probable semi-final against J-League outfit Urawa Reds.

"I feel positive sensations. I was happy to see Emerson train with the group, I'm not sure how well he is doing, but it's always good to see a team mate recovering," said Kaka.

"I'm sorry Ronie and Sergio did not take part in today's training, but I hope to see them back with us soon."

Kaka was asked if the long and gruelling flight would have a negative effect on the Mlan team.

"Not really, I'm used to it as I often travel to Brazil, only in that case the time goes backward," the 25-year-old said.

"The important thing is that your whole body gradually gets used to it. Now we will follow the instructions to decide when it's most appropriate to eat and sleep."

Finally Kaka was asked what he did in the first few hours after landing in Japan.

"It went well, the first few hours we had fun, then we talked a little and the majority of the players slept and we rested," he concluded.

AC Milan to enter Ronaldinho auction?

Milan have their eyes trained on Ronaldinho after the Brazilian star threatened to use FIFA Article 17 to quit Barcelona.

Milan have been regularly linked with Ronaldinho, but have seen past advances rebuffed as the former PSG man was a pivotal figure at the club.

However, the Porto Alegre native has fallen out of favour and was only on the bench for the Champions League game against Lyon and last weekend’s Espanyol derby day.

“My brother will leave if he isn’t wanted, even if he has to leave for free,” ‘Dinho’s agent and brother Roberto Assis warned.

FIFA Article 17 states that a player can unilaterally buy out his contract after three years of service if he pays a compensation sum to his club, based on his wages.

Chelsea have made no secret of their desire to bring the 27-year-old to Stamford Bridge and there could be a dramatic bidding war between the West London giants and the Rossoneri as both sides look to lure 'Dinho with a bumper contract offer.

There are also whispers that Juventus could enter the auction, but it is believed that they lack the funds to compete.

Simic nears Moscow move?

Milan defender Dario Simic is set to quit the Rossoneri and Lokomotiv Moscow is the most likely destination.

The 32-year-old is surplus to requirements at San Siro and has made just two appearances as a substitute this term.

The Croatia international declared earlier in the season that he would leave unless he played “at least 30 games” – a figure that now looks unrealistic.

Simic is hoping to represent Croatia at Euro 2008 and is searching for first-team football to ensure that he is prepared for the big event.

Lokomotiv Moscow are preparing to lose Serbian defensive starlet Branislav Ivanovic – with Juventus amongst the interested parties – and are believed to be considering Simic as a short-term replacement.

Ancelotti Hails Inzaghi Record

Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti says it was important that his team finished top of their Champions League group, and praised Filippo Inzaghi after he became the top goalscorer in UEFA competition of all time.

SuperPippo scored his 63rd goal in European competition as Milan beat Celtic 1-0, thus surpassing the record he heald with Germany and Bayern Munich legend Gerd Muller.

“Inzaghi reached a great achievement tonight, proving he still has a lot of life left in him,” said Ancelotti.

Milan only required a point to finish first in Group D, and the game seemed to be heading for a draw until Inzaghi struck in the 70th minute.

“Today we played a relatively tranquil first half, but we stepped on the gas in the second," said Carletto.

"We have many objectives this season and it was important to top the group so we’d reach the next round with the right credentials. It is also a good boost for the Club World Cup.”

Ancelotti concluded by looking ahead to next week's FIFA Club World Cup in Japan. The Rossoneri are favourites for the prestigious tournament between all of the world continents champions, however Copa Libertadores winners Boca Juniors should put up a fight.

“The European clubs have always struggled in Japan and we lost last time we were there,” pointed out Ancelotti.

“It is a great shop window for the South American sides and they seem to give a little bit extra. We have to prepare for this as we would a World Cup Final.

“Boca are a young side with the South American spirit. They have a mean defence and everyone knows Martin Palermo’s qualities in attack.”

SuperPippo Breaks UEFA Record In Milan Win

Milan 1-0 Celtic

Filippo Inzaghi broke the record as UEFA's all time record goalscorer as Milan beat Celtic 1-0 to finish top of Group D. The Bhoys also qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League following Shakhtar Donetsk's 2-1 defeat to Benfica.

Milan were already qualified coming into this game and required just a draw to finish top of the group. Celtic needed a point to progress to the last 16 for a second successive year.

The Rossoneri rested their entire defence, as Carlo Ancelotti went for a back-four consisting of Cafu, Daniele Bonera, Dario Simic and Giuseppe Favalli. Zeljko Kalac also replaced Dida in goal, however the rest of the line-up was virtually at full strength. Filippo Inzaghi would become the record European club competition goalscorer of all time if he scored in this game.

Celtic made one change from the side that drew with Hearts at the weekend. Massimo Donati replaced Jan Venegoor Of Hesselink as Gordon Strachan opted for a five-man midfield, with Scott McDonald as the lone frontman.

Newly-crowned Ballon d'Or winner Kaka lifted his trophy to a rather empty-looking Milan crowd seconds before kick-off.

The tempo at the start of the game was painfully slow as Milan controlled possession inside the Celtic half without really trying to break through the backline.

Indeed it took until the 15th minute until either side made an attack of any note as Inzaghi won a free-kick right on the edge of the area. Andrea Pirlo laid the ball to Clarence Seedorf, who was making his 100th Champions League appearance, but his shot was charged down.

Kaka then burst into life, skipping past two challenges before being denied a run on goal by a fine challenge from Stephen McManus.

Milan upped the tempo a little and Ambrosini had a half-decent shooting opportunity but screwed his attempt wide.

On 25 minutes McManus gave the ball away carelessly and Kaka curled a fine effort from outside the box but it was comfortably wide of Artur Boruc's left-hand post.

Inzaghi then lost his man with a trademark near-post run and wasn't far away from connecting with Favalli's cross. SuperPippo had an attempt soon after but he hacked the ball horribly over.

The home side were forced into a change on 28 minutes as Simic limped off, replaced by Kaladze.

The game then slowed down to a pedestrian pace and the next effort on goal, Celtic's first of the game, came on 38 minutes as Jarosik fired in a harmless effort from 35 yards which was straight at Kalac.

Cafu was getting a lot of the ball down the right and whipped in a cross for Inzaghi, who's header was well off target. A minute before the break a short-corner caught Celtic sleeping and Seedorf toe-poked an effort over the bar.

Into the second half and Pirlo hit a bizarre free-kick from the left which swerved in at least two different directions before going wide.

Inzaghi then had perhaps the best chance of the match so far when he got onto the end of a ricochet, however he was forced wide and could not get his shot on target.

Milan were now playing as if they wanted to win the tie and the game became more open as a result.

On 55 minutes Celtic missed a glorious chance to take the lead. McManus' raking pass put Scott Brown clean through on goal, but he scuffed his shot abysmally wide.

A few minutes later there was a curious moment as Favalli put in a cross from the left and the whole Celtic team seemed to stop, expecting an offside decision. The flag stayed down and Inzaghi was left with an open goal but incredibly he headed the ball to Boruc, after thinking that play had stopped. The goal would have stood.

On 69 minutes Milan did take the lead and the goalscorer was inevitable. Kaka fed in Cafu, and the wing-back's cut-back was swept home from close-range by Inzaghi. It was SuperPippo's record 63rd goal in UEFA Club football history, overtaking the German legend Gerd Muller!

Aidan McGeady tried to respond with a long-range free-kick but it was simple for Kalac. Down the other end the evergreen Cafu burst forward and forced Boruc into a save.

Substitute Yoann Gourcuff then hit a rocket of a shot which fizzed over the bar as Milan looked for a second goal.

Celtic were looking ragged and had Boruc to thank as he made a superb reaction save to deny another substitute Cristian Brocchi. The Pole also stopped Inzaghi's follow-up but the striker was offside so it didn't matter.

On 81 minutes the away side launched a rare attack and Kalac made a fine save to push Brown's powerful shot around the post.

Brocchi was enjoying himself for Milan and he hit another fierce effort from 25 yards which Boruc had to get his full weight behind.

Celtic refused to give up and substitute Venegoor Of Hesselink had a half-decent chance but headed wide.

In injury time Kaka went on a mesmerising solo run, running half the length of the field, beating Hartley and rounding Boruc, before his goalbound shot was charged down by Sno.

There was still time for the lively McGeady to fire wide down the other end but it did not matter as Shakhtar Donetsk's 2-1 defeat to Benfica, means that Celtic qualify for the knockout stages.

Milan become the first team in history to finish top of their Champions League group for six years on the trot.

Milan: Kalac; Cafu, Simic (Kaladze 30), Bonera, Favalli; Gattuso, Pirlo (Brocchi 74), Ambrosini; Kakà, Seedorf (Gourcuff 69); Inzaghi.

Celtic: Boruc; Caldwell, Pressley, McManus, O’Dea; Hartley, McGeady, S Brown, Donati (Sno 71), Jarosik (Zurawski 78); McDonald (Venegoor Of Hesselink 65)

A RECIPROCAL BONDING

As soon as he arrived in Milan, Ricky went towards Piazza del Duomo to show the Golden Ball to his fans and to thank them for contributing day by day to this great success. – THE PRESS CONFERENCE –

MILAN – These are the declarations of Kaka and Adriano Galliani during the press conference which was held last night at the arrival of the 2007 Golden Ball at the headquarters of Bwin at the Piazza del Duomo in Milan.

KAKA':
"I’m really happy to have received this award. Today it was an unforgettable day for me, but unfortunately it came to an end. In a day like this, you never get tired and only think about the nice things of the past and when tonight I will arrive home I will think, ‘unfortunately it’s over!’. I was excited this morning, then the award was handed to me in a city like Paris, in France, everything influenced. The first days I will keep this trophy close to me for sure, I think next to my night table.”

Ricky, was there ever a player you admired when you were a kid?
“Yes, there was a player who played with San Paolo and he was called Rai. When I was much younger, he was an example for me, he was the number one of the team and he won a lot and taught me a lot.”

When did you understand that Milan was the team for you?
“I always said that I want to become the symbol of this club, to be the captain one day, obviously respecting all of hierarchies of the case. Everyone has always misunderstood my talk when I say that my future depends on God’s will, but I want to remain at Milan.”

What affect does this award have for Brazilian and Italian football?
“I’m the fourth player after Rivaldo, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho. I think that for Brazilian football is a nice thing. Then I believe that the possibility to win this award is bigger when playing in a winning team like Milan and a national team like the Verdeoro. Italian football is going through a delicate and difficult moment, but still remains a very competition football and this win can be very important.”

Ricky, with this award you become a perfect lad.
“Perfect no, I’m a contemporary lad, I do all the things that the other lads of my age do. I have my values, like the family – a value which I like a lot – and faith. For my defects you have to ask my parents and my brother.”

Who do you want to dedicate this Golden Ball to?
“I dedicate it to every person who has contributed in all of these years, to those who were close to me in my life and in my career. To all of these I give a piece of this Golden Ball. Many have been close to me, have supported me also from abroad and I want to thank all of these for this.”

Did you speak to President Berlusconi?
“The President was very happy about the fact that another of his players won this award and he hopes to bring more of these to the club.”

What excited you most?
“Seeing all of these fans outside waiting for me, there are no words to describe such a big and special emotion. I would have liked to hug them one by one because even they are part of this success. I did not expect all of these people.”

Do you also expect the FIFA World Player?
“I wouldn’t know, they told me I’m in the top three. I hope to finish this year in a wonderful way, maybe also winning in Japan, even though it will not be so easy, but it would be the perfect ending for this year. However, my motivation is that of winning again all that I have already won so far. Even though the next Golden Ball will be of a Milan player, we would all be happy because it would mean that Milan won again.”

ADRIANO GALLIANI:

“I hope that other Golden Balls arrive to Milan soon. Like the President of ‘France Football’ said, the Golden Ball is won by the player who proves Fair Play both on and off the pitch, and if Ricky has become like this we must also thank his parents. Therefore I thank mum and dad, who maybe did not teach him how to play football, but taught him to be a well-mannered boy and with great values, and I believe that this is fundamental for today’s footballers because they have substituted the Hollywood stars and have become models for the children, therefore they need to be positive models.”

For us Kaka is a reason of joy, pride, excitement and commotion. I’m really happy, just like President Berlusocni, of Riccardo’s desire to remain at Milan for a long time. I think that it will be a reciprocal commitment from Riccardo and the club. Let’s hope that Ricky ends as late as possible his tie with Milan, and he’s still a child as he only has 25 years of age. It’s a present we want to give to our fans.”

Maradona Feels That Kaka Doesn't Deserve The Ballon d'or

Argentinean legend Diego Maradona weighs in on the debate on whether Ricardo Kaka deserves the Balloon d’or, and stuck to his earlier stance.

As soon as Kaka received the prestigious trophy on Sunday in Paris, a furious debate ensued questioning the merits of the Brazilian superstar receiving the award.

Though his Champions League form was great, the play-maker was practically non-existent through the Serie A season, and there have been calls from various quarters that consistency should be rewarded as opposed to a few glittering performances.

Former Argentinean superstar Diego Maradona - who had made his position clear by backing Lionel Messi - chose to stick to his guns.

“Rooney, Ronaldinho and Messi would have been the worthy winners,” he said.

“It was a tough decision but there is not much separating Kaka from those players.”

'El Diego' also had an opinion on the upcoming World Club Cup that pits his beloved Boca Juniors against AC Milan.

“It’s going to be a difficult match and everyone is predicting Milan to be victorious but Milan are Kaka-dependent,” he stated.

Carletto focused on Celtic

Carlo Ancelotti insists that his Milan side are focused on beating Celtic tomorrow to secure top spot in Champions League Group D.

The European champions are already guaranteed a place in the knockout stages, but they need to avoid defeat against Celtic to finish top.

December will be a crucial month for Milan as they prepare to travel to Japan for the Club World Cup, but Carletto denies suggestions that the Rossoneri may relax in their final Group D encounter.

“At the moment we aren’t thinking about Tokyo, but about winning the Champions League Group,” Ancelotti stressed.

“We want to keep hold of first place. We will do our duty and we have the utmost respect for everyone.

“Celtic are a lot more experienced than in past years. They are physically and technically strong and can hurt you.

“They have put in very good performances at home and have improved so much, but they are less strong away from home.”

Milan will also be motivated by the desire for revenge after their devastating defeat in Glasgow on a night that saw Nelson Dida vilified for overreacting to an attack from a fan.

“Dida is clam and the episode in Glasgow is over,” Ancelotti insisted. “He has admitted his responsibility and it finished then.”

Pippo Inzaghi could overtake Gerd Muller’s record of 62 European Cup goals if he finds the net and the Milan boss finished with a thought for the prolific hitman.

“That record is very important to Pippo and he can get there,” he stated.

“We hope that he will get there tomorrow evening, but if he doesn’t he will get there another time.”

Galliani: We're keeping Kaka

Adriano Galliani has “guaranteed” Kaka will remain at Milan after becoming the sixth player from the club to win the Ballon d’Or.

“It is a fantastic story,” grinned the Vice-President. “We have had Gianni Rivera, Ruud Gullit, Marco van Basten won it three times, George Weah, Andriy Shevchenko and now Kaka. I thank him and his family.”

The Brazilian has been the subject of world record shattering transfer bids from Real Madrid and Chelsea, the Spaniards alleged to have offered £80m.

“He will remain at Milan. I can guarantee it,” assured Galliani.

Kaka’s family was in attendance at the ‘France Football’ ceremony in Paris, including younger brother Digao, who also plays for Milan.

“It is very exciting being here. To see my brother receive this trophy and know he is the Number One makes me very proud,” said the defender.

Digao gave Ricky his football nickname, as when he was young he was unable to pronounce Ricardo and could only say ‘Kaka.’

“He makes so many sacrifices and works extremely hard. He really deserves it. Clearly, I want to win one as well now!”

Kaka’s mother Cristina was in Paris beaming with pride. “It is a great moment of achievement. Since he was a little boy I have seen our son work hard. I thank God and Kaka, because he is fantastic.”

This week Kaka confirmed to the media that he was trying to have a child with wife Caroline.

“It is a great honour to be Kaka’s wife at a ceremony like this,” she said. “I know how important this trophy is for my husband. Above all, we thank God.”

I’m Not Going Anywhere, Assures Pirlo

Andrea Pirlo has reassured the Milan faithful by declaring that he has no intent to leave the San Siro in the summer.

Juventus and Bayern Munich have both been linked with bank-busting bids for the Azzurri star, even though Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has always been keen to stress that the 28-year-old is not for sale for any price.

Now, it would certainly appear that their charm offensive has had no affect on Pirlo’s contentness in Milan.

“I can confirm that I’ll still be at Milan next season,” said the stylish midfielder. “The fact is that my contract runs until 2011.”

This was a marked shift in tone from comments made by Pirlo recently, as he had gotten in the habit of announcing his admiration for Juventus and Bayern, for whom his close friends Gianluigi Buffon and Luca Toni famously star.

This might not be enough to dissuade his suitors from preparing offers in excess of 25m Euro to test both Milan and Pirlo’s resolve, however, as the former Brescia man counts as one of the coveted midfielders on the planet.

Ballon d'Or: Kaka crowned

It is now official – Milan star Kaka is the 2007 Player of the Year after he was assigned the Ballon d’Or.

The Brazilian had been the over-riding favourite since voting began among the journalists all over the continent.

Previously known as the European Player of the Year award, organisers ‘France Football’ have recently extended the competition to those all over the world.

He absolutely dominated with 444 votes, ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United, 277) and Lionel Messi (Barcelona, 255). The same trio are shortlisted for the FIFA World Player of the Year award.

The other Serie A representatives in the top 10 are Milan teammate Andrea Pirlo in fifth position, Inter’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic in seventh place and Francesco Totti in 10th.

“It was an exceptional year and the Ballon d’Or crowns an extraordinary 2007,” said Kaka as he accepted the award in Paris.

“I want to thank God who allowed me to be here today. I thank my wife, my parents and Milan, the team that allowed me to win.

“I also thank my teammates, both at Milan and Brazil, and all of the fans.”

Kaka was the hot favourite after winning the Champions League – where he was top scorer with 10 goals – and the European Super Cup with the Rossoneri.

"It's the top prize around and the only way to win something like this is to play for a team like Milan," he said. "It's great to be part of a team that wins."

In October Kaka was named FIFPro World Player of the Year, voted for by 45,000 members of the players' union.

‘Ricky’ succeeds Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro, who won both the 2006 Ballon d’Or and FIFA World Player of the Year trophies after his World Cup triumph.

In all eight Ballon d’Ors have gone to Milan players after Gianni Rivera (1969), Ruud Gullit (1987), Marco van Basten (1988, ’89, ’92), George Weah (1995) and Andriy Shevchenko (2004).

“I have always said I want to become a symbol for Milan, the captain of this squad and I believe the best person to learn from is Paolo Maldini, who has played for the same club his whole life and won so much,” continued Kaka.

“I have just started my career, I am winning and he can set the best example for all of us here, as we are all winners.”

Since joining the Rossoneri for under £6m in the summer of 2003 Kaka has won the Scudetto, Champions League, two European Super Cups as well as three Oscar del Calcio – including 2006 Serie A Player of the Year – and UEFA 2007 Player of the Year.

“I am more mature, have more experience and learned so many things. I can put all that on to the field and this is why I score more goals and can play with more consistency, but that can only improve over time.”

The only trophy missing from the prodigious 25-year-old’s mantelpiece is now the Club World Cup, which Milan will aim for later this month.

“The competition in Japan is all I am missing now. This is the most important for a South American, as I grew up knowing this is the best there is, as you can only play in it if you win the Copa Libertadores. I lost in 2003, but now I want to win.”

Kaka was among the Rossoneri who lost the Intercontinental Cup to Boca Juniors in December 2003.

Ancelotti Rues Denied Penalty, Sets Infamous Record

Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti was not happy with the penalty he believes his team were denied as he set a recored he would not have liked to.

“We struggled in the first half, but after the break Juve’s pressure dropped and we took control,” he began, speaking after the 0-0 draw.

“Juventus are a very compact side and they kept a lot of pressure on Andrea Pirlo.

“But we could have been a little luckier and there was a penalty incident on Alberto Gilardino.”

It is almost incredible that Milan have not won at home for nine games, but the Rossoneri coach was not too fluttered.

“The statistics say we don’t score often enough at home," he responded. "Today we had some good chances and have nothing to reproach ourselves for.

"However, we are doing better than last season before the Christmas break, even if there are some midfield players need to play continuously."

Finally, he spoke about Ronaldo's continuing fitness problems: "We have time to get him back into shape. I think we have time to prepare for Japan [the Club World Cup]."

November 30, 2007

THE RIGHT MOMENT

The absence of Ronaldo tomorrow night will not influence Milan. The team would have still played in the same way. Tomorrow night I want to see the same team of Milan-Manchester United of the 2nd of May.

MILANELLO - Carlo Ancelotti: "I’m not worried, we’re coming from the Lisbon match with the qualification. Objective reached, even though the performance was not very good. From the fighting spirit we have something less than Juventus due to this European commitment, but already knowing it is an advantage. In football there isn’t just running. Surely, training with tranquillity during the week allows a team to have a better condition. However, there is also the attention, application, quality and we will try to use all of this tomorrow. The only unavailable players are Jankulovksi and Ronaldo, the rest will recover. Milan-Juventus arrives at the right moment, it will be very difficult as Juventus is improving. They found a good spirit and a good organization, but for us it’s the right moment to return to winning at home against a great team.”

Carlo Ancelotti again: "Juventus is always a great team, an opponent which fights till the end. I did not think that they could reach these levels so soon. Juventus changed a lot, but still managed to build on quality player a good organization. They hurried things up. For the fourth place, this game is important because we are a bit behind. From this point of view it’s more important for us, because Juventus is already better placed than us. “

The home games issue: “It’s the first time that this happens. It never happened to me in the past and it never happened at Milan. I hope that it will be solved tomorrow. The Scudetto of last season? Inter won it deservedly, it’s not a false Scudetto. Last year we got distanced by Inter too early. The absence of Ronaldo tomorrow evening will not influence Milan, as we would have played in the same way. I think that for Japan Ronaldo can be available. Maybe tomorrow it won’t rain, but if we want to re-play the same game we played at San Siro in the semi-final against Manchester, then we shall succeed. The English team arrived to San Siro playing offensively and they were not able to manage the positive result of the first leg. The English are like that also for the national team. For the rest, our formation will be almost like Milan-Manchester, apart from the absence of Jankulovksi. In fact the only doubt I have is on the left hand side of the defence. Buffon with the Rossoneri’s scarf? Either he dressed in the dark, or paid us tribute, or maybe a prediction. Maybe that scarf means something…Buffon is very well at Juventus. He’s also the captain and he became a flag of this team. Buffon is the best goalkeeper in the world, it gives you more advantages than disadvantages."

Ronaldo and Camoranesi ruled out

It is now official – Ronaldo and Mauro German Camoranesi are out of Saturday’s Milan-Juventus showdown.

The two players were in doubt due to injury and neither managed to recover in time for a spot on the bench.

Ronaldo felt a twinge in his calf muscle as he was warming up to come on as a substitute during the 1-1 draw with Benfica on Wednesday evening.

Il Fenomeno is not in the squad named by Coach Carlo Ancelotti for this game, but Pippo Inzaghi has returned after a bout of tonsillitis.

It is believed Alberto Gilardino will start upfront in a Christmas Tree formation with support from Kaka and Clarence Seedorf.

Over at Juventus, Camoranesi has not made the trip to Milan after failing a late fitness test today.

The Italian international is still struggling with a right thigh problem he picked up during training this week and stays behind along with Zdenek Grygera.

Milan squad: Dida, Kalac; Bonera, Cafu, Kaladze, Maldini, Nesta, Oddo, Serginho; Ambrosini, Brocchi, Gattuso, Gourcuff, Kakà, Pirlo, Seedorf; Gilardino, Inzaghi

Juventus squad: Buffon, Birindelli, Chiellini, Almiron, Zebina, Zanetti, Salihamidzic, Iaquinta, Del Piero, Nedved, Belardi, Vanstrattan, Trezeguet, Criscito, Palladino, Nocerino, Molinaro, Tiago, Marchionni, Legrottaglie

Kaka closes in on FIFA award

Milan ace Kaka is on a three-man shortlist for FIFA’s World Player of the Year award.

The Brazilian star is set to receive the Ballon d’Or award on Sunday in Paris and now stands a strong chance of doubling his celebrations.

The other two men on the three-man list are Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona’s Argentine marksman Lionel Messi.

While the Ballon d’Or winner is elected by journalists, Coaches and captains of the national teams of FIFA member countries vote for the World Player of the Year award.

Kaka is reportedly the favourite to clinch the prize at FIFA’s World Player Gala in Zurich on December 17.

The Brasilia native could cap a stellar year that has already seen him receive the FIFPro World Player of the Year honour in October after winning the highest percentage of the 45,000 votes from fellow players.

Milan Step Up Amauri Interest

AC Milan are stepping up their interest in Palermo striker Amauri and could make a bid for the player as early as January.

The Corriere dello Sport is claiming today that the Rossoneri are starting to lose their patience with injury-bedevilled star Ronaldo.

El Fenomeno only made his first appearance of the season for the Rossoneri against Cagliari last Sunday, however he then picked up another injury while warming-up before the Champions League match with Benfica in midweek.

This calf problem has ruled Ronaldo out of tomorrow’s crunch Serie A clash with Juventus, and leaves him in a race against time to be fit for the Club World Cup in a fortnight’s time.

The European Champions only currently have two other forwards in their first-team squad, Filippo Inzaghi and Alberto Gilardino.

The former, despite his goalscoring exploits in Europe, has not hit the back of the net in Serie A for 11 months. Meanwhile Gilardino has failed to convince many of his pedigree.

This has led the Milan hierarchy to step up their interest in Palermo’s Brazilian hitman Amauri. The 27-year-old, who has scored five Serie A goals this term, has been linked with the Rossoneri for some time now.

It is also believed that due to the large Brazilian contingent already present in the Milan squad, Amauri would fit in to his new environment nicely.

Ronaldo Not To Be Offered New Milan Contract?

Injury-plagued Milan striker Ronaldo may not be offered a new contract by the club, according to Tuttosport.

El Fenomeno signed for the Rossoneri from Real Madrid in January of this year on an 18-month contract.

The 31-year-old made an impressive start to life at San Siro, scoring seven goals in 14 games up until the end of last season.

Ronaldo then picked up an injury in July and he only made his first appearance of this campaign in last Sunday’s 2-1 win over Cagliari.

However just days later the ex-Inter star pulled up with a calf problem whilst warming up before the midweek Champions League match with Benfica.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti decided to keep Ronaldo on the bench for the entire 90 minutes, and it has now been revealed that he will not be fit for tomorrow’s crunch match with Juventus.

As Ronaldo’s contract with Milan runs out next summer, this means that he will be able to talk to other clubs from January.

In order to prevent the possibility of a Bosman free transfer, the Rossoneri have just over a month to present Ronnie with a new deal.

However according to Tuttosport this may not be forthcoming unless the Brazilian can prove that his injury problems are behind him.

Palermo hitman Amauri has already been touted as a possible replacement, while 18-year-old wonderkid Alexandre Pato will also be available from January, thus further reducing the importance of the three-times FIFA World Player of the Year.

AC Milan unveil Club World Cup squad

Carlo Ancelotti has named his 23-man squad for the Club World Cup in Japan, including the injured Ronaldo and Marek Jankulovski.

Milan are participating champions of Europe in the tournament that runs from December 7 to 16.

Although Ronaldo and full-back Jankulovski are currently out of action, the Coach hopes to have them both back in time to play in Japan.

Il Fenomeno has been ruled out of Saturday’s Serie A match with Juventus and most likely the Champions League decider with Celtic on Tuesday evening due to a recurring calf problem.

Under FIFA rules Milan can bring 23 players, but Alexandre Pato cannot take part, as the 18-year-old’s registration can only be made official from January 2008.

The Rossoneri only enter the competition from the semi-finals on December 13, where they will face one of Sepahan, Waitakere United and Urawa Red Diamonds.

Boca Juniors enter from the other semi-final and the trophy will be assigned in Yokohama on December 16.

Meanwhile, Boca Juniors have been told they cannot use new signing Juan Roman Riquelme in the Club World Cup.

The Argentine just completed his move from Villarreal, but is not eligible because he missed the “strict deadline of Friday November 23 2007 for submitting a final list of players,” explained FIFA.

Riquelme was not on the preliminary list handed in last week.

Milan squad: Dida, Kalac, Fiori; Cafù, Maldini, Kaladze, Nesta, Simic, Jankulovski, Bonera, Serginho, Oddo; Emerson, Gattuso, Seedorf, Gourcuff, Pirlo, Ambrosini, Brocchi; Inzaghi, Gilardino, Kakà, Ronaldo.

Milan playmaker Andrea Pirlo, who was also a key factor in the Rossoneri’s European success in Athens last May, completes the top five.
